You know what really grinds my gears? College websites. Why you might ask? To answer your query simply, after researching about 15 or so (and these are for fine, upstanding, large schools mind you) I have come to realize that each and every university site follows more or less AN IDENTICAL FORMAT. Did the same unimaginative website factory pump out a bounty of these things at the same time?? Let me elaborate while you envision/select any university and visit the corresponding online location…a navigation tool on the top and left side, a main slideshow of students going about fulfilling the American Dream while laughing heartily in front of a Medieval Castle that probably doesn’t exist, and a couple of dull features splashed underneath in neat little boxes labeled “University News and Events!” and “Today at University!” highlighting all the kids you probably wouldn’t want to be friends with anyway because they live in the laboratories and koombaya circles feeding greedily upon their own intellect. That was harsh. But so is trying to navigate a sight when the text is font size 10 Times New Roman and there are about 5 paragraphs describing the Admissions process. I would rather read a car manual. Why didn’t I come to this realization when I was actually applying to college four years ago? Because four years ago these same websites were brand new, exciting and impressive. So was applying online…Looks like they haven’t updated anything since.
Does this sound like your college website? If not, congratulations. If it does, don’t feel offended and don’t cry about it. Second Melody can help!
