The college student looks forward to graduation day like they would look forward to being pushed out of an airplane to a painful death. Come to think of it, my friends at school can only bring themselves to refer to it as the “G word”, a portal to an unfamiliar desert dimension with giant sandworms, business suits, and gray cubicles…the real world. This has been my view of it for the extent of my sheltered educational career, that is, until I began my internship at Second Melody.

I walked into the doors of this cozy office expecting a simple internship, and received more than I could ever have hoped.

Now bear with me while I indulge in some essential watery-eyed prose … as far as I know, Second Melody is a rare gem, a beautiful haven of marketing nestled in the rolling hills of Morristown, NJ. Everyone person is clever, ambitious, open minded and most importantly…happy to be here. Talents are recognized, ideas are encouraged, and the envelope is constantly being pushed. Here exists an overwhelming feeling of progress and strength. For all the fun that is had (quite a lot), there is an equal amount of dedication devoted to the task at hand. I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have interned here for the summer before my senior year, and because of it, I am sad to see this summer end!

So here I sit, at my little desk at the top of the stairs, munching on a rice crispy cookie icing brownie invented by the programmers, reflecting on the past few months. And I have decided that besides learning more than any class could ever teach, besides solidifying that advertising is a field that I definitely want to pursue, besides having the opportunity to meet and work with some awesome people, I would say that this internship has given me an altogether rosy and optimistic view of that fateful graduation day marching my way.

Because of Second Melody, I am confident that innately happy companies do exist, and the real world doesn’t seem like such a terrible and mysterious place after all.

I thank everyone here, and encourage you all to continue your awesomeness.

Your intern,

Marley
