Background : Panasonic’s Network Camera division was looking for a way to engage an emerging demographic for their home network cameras while learning more about them and informing them about current products.
Objective : Engage and communicate with a demographic of pet enthusiasts using Web 2.0 technologies, while showing them the benefits of a home network security camera used to watch their pets when they couldn’t be at home.
How : Second Melody worked with Panasonic to develop SeeMyPetCam.com a video sharing site that allows users to upload videos of their pets, create profiles, enter into contests and give feedback on existing videos on the site. The idea was to build a community environment amongst pet lovers, while gathering information for Panasonic to create targeted marketing and advertising lists to use in future campaigns. The site is entirely user driven with the exception of the video approval system, contest system and user profiles, all which can be controlled by Panasonic through a comprehensive GUI setup by Second Melody. Pet resources as well as a partnership with a local animal shelter, with a live video camera feed, are also included on the site.
Results : The campaign is ongoing, however after only a short time being up, the site has over 1000 members and has been viewed over 84,000 times. With an average time of over 2 minutes per website user, the site allows for a fantastic user experience while providing phenomenal product visibility. Since the site’s inception, over 10,500 users have requested more information about the product and over 150 users a day get sent directly to a point of purchase on a major web retailer.
